October Country
An Exhibition of Donal Mosher’s Photography
Curated by Sam Gould

Sep. 5th - Oct. 25th 2009
Opening Saturday, September 5th 6-10 pm
Gallery Hours: Fri-Sun 12-5 pm and by appointment

OCTOBER COUNTRY, an investigation of artist Donal Mosher's life and family through photography, film, and narrative writing, deftly considers the nature of human interaction, experience and the measures we take to find a place for ourselves within contemporary society.

Mosher, apart from capturing the lives of his family over the last seven years, has – for the last three – been at work on a feature length documentary with filmmaker Michael Palmieri. The film “October Country” chronicles the violent domestic struggles of his sister and two nieces and recently garnered the Silverdocs Competition Sterling Award. October Country will screen this November at the Whitsell Auditorium as part of the NW Film Center’s NW Film and Video Festival.

The six-week exhibition, curated by artist and Red76 founder Sam Gould, will be the most comprehensive exhibition of Mosher&s work on the West Coast to date.

This exhibition partially funded by the Regional Arts and Culture Council.

A native of New York"s Mohawk Valley, Mosher now lives and works in Portland, Oregon, yet often returns home to record the lives of his multi-generational family-lives that are ordinary like the small towns that dot the upstate region yet filled with the complexity of the struggle to survive in the hard hit rural hinterlands of economically depressed America.
